As a result of the growing geographical spread of our clients requesting our training (Australia is the furthest thus far) we have fine tuned how our public speaking training, presentation skills coaching, and media training courses can be provided remotely via video conference technology.
Unlike face to face training, our experience is that sitting in front of a computer screen and webcam for the entire public speaking coaching course is not very comfortable or conducive to a positive learning experience. Therefore, for the remote training we have broken the course down into modules, which can either be purchased one at a time, and scheduled accordingly, or for a discounted price can be purchased as a bundled, and scheduled as an when you are ready to take each module.
Our recommendation, and thus foundation for the breakdown into the course modules, is that each session should be limited to 45-60 minutes each. If they carry on longer than this, it is because it is being driven by you, the training candidate, with questions or in-depth practical work, and we are happy that the sessions are not limited to this time to ensure that you get the most from each module.
As we write this (always proactively keeping an eye on the best technology to use), our current technology of choice to deliver this is Zoom, as it allows us to connect with our candidates via both voice and video, share presentation slides, share videos and images etc, record practical work performed by the candidates, and then watch these recordings back to analyse, feedback, and further improve on.
Whilst this doesn't necessarily have quite the same feel as being together in person, we have managed to create a level of training and interaction that you our candidates still receive the same level of information learning, practical work and analysis, and personal interaction with our trainers as you would with when being in the same room, you just can't throw things at them...
All a candidate needs is
That is all that is required. We recommend a room with enough lighting and privacy. It is not essential, but where appropriate it can sometimes be better to use headphones during the training.
Open Dawes Training's courses are CPD Accredited, which provides both credit earning for those who require an annual accumulation of CPD credits, and a kite mark of quality even for those who don't professionally need them.
As this remote training is a dissection of these CPD accredited training courses, these too earn you the credits, as the candidates will be absorbing the same learning material, and carrying out the same practical exercises, just with bigger comfort breaks between the sections, at your own pace, and without having to travel anywhere. One hour equates to one CPD credit.
The majority of our remote training is run as a one-to-one, as this is a communication method that we are all getting more used to in our personal lives let alone the professional world.
However, we are also able to provide the training to multiple candidates from the same organisation at the same time, with a suggested maximum of 5 at a time. These candidates can either be all together in the same room (subject to the availability of a suitably sized meeting room and video conferencing equipment for the group round a table to use) or each candidate in their own locations with their own webcams and microphones.
We are able to mute candidate's microphones and apply a virtual "raise hand" technology to control the multiple voices that could could make traditional group video conferences challenging, so this is definitely a viable option for an organisation to provide full, part, or follow up coaching from Open Dawes Training to teams, groups, executive groups, or parts of at a time.
The majority of this page discusses the most popular requirement that we and our coaches are involved in of live presentation skills and public speaking video training sessions. The modules of these live training options are listed below, and are likely to grow in additional optional modules over the coming weeks/months (e.g. hosting video conferences, speaking to a webcam, telemarketing, sales skills, etc.) so please do check back to see the updates, or register your interest in live remote training by Open Dawes Training and we will keep you updated.
In addition to the live training, we are currently working on the creation of a library of recorded "evergreen" training videos for individuals to follow at their own pace. This of course does not provide the interactive nature of live or face-to-face training, but it does enable self-paced learning with the scope for live follow-up/practical session to be added if/when appropriate. We will be providing the video modules and pricing as soon as we have completed them, so please register your interest in the public speaking and presentation skills video training series to be kept up to date and notified as soon as they are ready for release.
If you have any other questions or requirements, please contact Open Dawes Training and we will be delighted to help. You can also sign up to the monthly Open Dawes Training newsletter to receive tips and news from us.
Face to face we train trainers to get the most our of the training delivery, whether that is internal training courses or training for their clients. With our training also being provided remotely, and experiencing the unique requirements and challenges of setting up and providing training remotely, we also provide remote training to trainers who also want/need to provide their training remotely.
This is more often than not bespoke to a certain level, as it tends to vary on the levels of experience of the candidates, technically and practically. Therefore, please do get in touch to discuss how we can best help you or your organisation with our remote training for trainers.
Core Modules - each module is typically 30-60 minutes long each, plus questions/activities, although not limited to this should your interactive discussions require longer.
Each module can be done either in isolation and worked through over mutually suitable days/times, or can be carried out in bundles of two or more modules at a time as preferred.
Optional Additional Remote Modules
**Multi-candidate economies of scale available, either as separate one-to-one's but paid for a the same time, small group as an interactive session, or larger group as a non-interactive webinar. Please enquire to discuss your specific requirements to enable an accurate proposal to be drawn up**

"Massive thanks to Chris Dawes at Open Dawes Training for all his help in preparing me for the Mazda road to Indy scholarship shootout next week. Would fully recommend their Sports Communications/Media training!"
"Open Dawes Training - Communication Skills that Remove Limits. I had the pleasure of attending this course and I took away so much knowledge and insperation. Confidence was an issue but Chris demonstrated how planning, and format of presentation can work"
“Chris came in specifically to deliver a 90-minute taster session for Nationwide. This session covered the benefits, techniques and tips for presenting in a variety of situations. I was really impressed how Chris tailored the content for the group. In his unique style Chris role modelled and delivered an engaging talk on how best to present and conquer what can sometimes be all consuming nerves. Along with several anecdotes and real life practical tips, the group left motivated and ready to put this all into practice. If you need someone to help you deliver presentations and speak with confidence in any arena – then Chris can help you to Open Doors…”
"I got a lot from the day and with Chris's sales & media background, he made it very easy to open up and talk without even trying. It was very good and I hope I now have the tools to be better than I was. We may look to bring other drivers and key team members down so training the team as a whole."
"I attended a recent public speaking session with Chris and learnt a lot. His consistent approach and ability to help you individually on how you can improve, the techniques that you need and he lets you know the things you don't even realise you are doing is really helpful. I came away with a lot that I can improve on and he gave me the tools to do this, and I realised that it is not just me that gets nervous and how to channel this into positivity. I would highly recommend attending any courses available, it will help everyone in a positive way"
"Public speaking, presenting, OMG!!Apparently I appear calm and confident......... well I can tell you my stomach is in knots, I have sweaty palms, a racing heartbeat.... the works. Chris provided a group of us with some sound advice, some hints and tips and some background to enable us to improve. The course handbook with all my notes is still out, a quick read to remind me will happen often until I feel calm and collected. This may never happen but I feel better prepared for my next presentation already. For me, Chris's course has provided enough pointers for me to concentrate on one at a time to consistently improve my skills. At the very least, this course highlighted some Do's and Do not's. At the most it has provided me with a framework for constant improvement. Will I be a great public speaker? Maybe, eventually........ will I be a better presenter? Definitely"
"Thank you Chris and congratulations on getting your training CPD accredited it certainly is worth it as it is brilliant. I am not scared of public speaking but I really was not sure I was getting my message across. I now know what I am doing right (some of that I had not realised) and where and how I need to improve on the structure of my talks. I have to say I now feel much more confident and preparing my presentations is much easier and faster as I now know what I am doing rather than hoping it will make sense to the listeners. I am looking forward to many more opportunities to present."
"Recently completed a 1 day course with Chris, he delivered an enlightening presentation with some fantastic take away tips to really help with confidence, content and most importantly delivery. Highly recommend."
"Chris has an extremely relaxed and professional approach to delivering speaker training. He was able to bring to the front the real issues behind presenting nerves, and offer simple and very effective tips to relax and deliver a great presentation. I would recommend Chris to anyone who would like help becoming a more effective presenter.
It was clear that the day was well prepared and thought out, and tackled in a systematic way, which built through the day, the key aspects which holds back a presenter. I liked the way it was an original approach, with your own experiences and self-taught knowledge used to teach me how I could improve.”
"Chris was very knowledgeable and really helped to boost my confidence with public speaking. I also came away with some very useful tips and tricks for future presentations."
"I attended a 1 day 'Open Dawes' session with a group of my colleagues last week, Chris provided loads of fantastic information on every aspect of public speaking - I have taken away a lot of useful tips and ideas. Cant wait to put them into practice!"
