For accredited training provider Open Dawes Training, lockdown has resulted in its online programmes moving to the forefront of its business, as highlighted in the recent article in the Swindon/Wilts and Bath/Somerset versions of The Business Exchange.
Open Dawes Training offers CPD accredited public speaking and presentation training to businesses, organisations and their teams, and has clients based across the UK and worldwide.
Although much of the training is face-to-face for individuals and in groups, during lockdown the company’s online service has become the sole method of delivery, and it has also expanded into helping people present, meet, and train remotely themselves.
“Many businesses have pivoted their organisations – that is a buzzword at the moment – but with Open Dawes Training, being online isn’t new. We were doing it already,” said Chris Dawes, Managing Director of the Swindon-based company. “We have been able to strengthen and extend the range of our online training, for manageable sized groups and for individuals.
“As well as video and voice operating two-way, we share screens and presentations, and we can carry out all the interactive work we do in front of the camera, which can be captured and analysed together. Then we deliver bespoke training which helps our clients overcome their issues and turns them into really great public speakers and presenters, both in person and remotely.
“I like to joke that the only difference between face-to-face and online training is that nobody can throw anything at us!”
Among Open Dawes Training’s overseas clients is a sportsman in Australia, who wanted to feel more confident when speaking in public and when engaging with potential sponsors, fans, and the media. As with all Open Dawes Training, Chris started with ‘why’. By helping the client to understand the value of public speaking and how it would help his efforts and to progress, the subsequent training was far more effective.
Chris taught his client a number of strategies for engaging with people, such as how to deal with nerves, breathing techniques and advice on pace of speech. As with all one-to-one training, the client was videoed at the beginning and again at the end, so he could see for himself how much he had improved.
Chris added: “Now is an ideal time for individuals and organisations to spend time on professional and personal development, and invest in CPD training, while many are working from home and potentially have more available time. Whenever we are through the other side of COVID-19, the way we work is likely to have changed forever and it is likely that being more present online is here to stay. We are delighted that at Open Dawes Training we were ahead of the curve for this trend.”
Open Dawes Training has developed a new range of bite-sized coaching sessions, specifically for online delivery. These contain as much or as little of the full public speaking, presentation skills, and media training courses as required but over a duration that is more conducive to being received remotely (typically one to two hours per session).
Chris is also offering bespoke mentoring sessions which can be booked by the hour, where clients can focus on specific challenges they may be facing, such as overcoming nerves or developing content for their presentations.
